WEST AFRICA SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS
The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination is
administered to School Candidates in the third year of the West
Africa Senior School
course and to Private Candidates.
The examination is both for selection to tertiary institutions
and for certification.
- Eligibility
School Candidates
The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination for
school candidates is available to third year candidates of Senior
Secondary Schools duly recognized by the Ministry of Education and
WAEC.
Private Candidates
Private Candidates, that is those attending approved private
Senior Secondary Schools and also members of the public not attending
Senior Secondary Schools, can be accepted for the Senior Secondary
School Certificate Examination.
Dates of Examination
The examination is conducted in July/August for School
candidates only and in October/November for private candidates.
- Entry Procedure
School Candidates
The entry period is November/December and it lasts
for six weeks. School authorities are expected to register their
candidates on official entry forms and schedules purchased from
the WAEC. Other details of the entry procedure are provided in Notes
for the guidance of Schools which are supplied together with the
entry documents. The completed entry documents, together with registration
fees in bank draft, are expected to be submitted to the Council's
Office located in the region of the School.
Private Candidates
The entry period is April/May. Candidates are expected
to submit completed entry documents, together with the registration
fees in bank draft to the Council's office in the region of their
choice.
